About

Jowee Omicil's Love Matters! is a dynamic blend of jazz, classical, and pop, showcasing his vibrant personality both musically and as a person. This album revisits his cultural roots, with carnival rhythms front and center, seamlessly intertwined with his love for classical melodies, Thelonious Monk's jazz influence, Jamaican beats, and the spirit of Miles Davis. His signature BasH! Style ties it all together, offering listeners a glimpse into his ever-expanding musical journey.

The album features tracks like "Mendé Lolo," which takes inspiration from a Martiniquais rhythm and is also performed as a Rara or carnival beat in Haiti. Omicil notes that this track, which he sees as a tribute to Hugh Masekela, evolves uniquely when played with a diverse group of musicians from around the world.

The music video for "Mendé Lolo," shot in Conakry, Guinea, captures Omicil engaging with the city's residents, both young and old, while showcasing his musical versatility. The video, produced with the help of Hugo Claveau and Frédérique Miguel, features guest performances from local musicians like Papa Kouyaté and his Grands Sorciers, Balla Moussa, and others.
